ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College softball team dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader at the University of Mount Union Wednesday (April) afternoon. The Purple Raiders came from behind to beat Marietta 4-3 in game one and then posted an 11-2 win in the second game.
The two losses drop Marietta to 9-15 on the season and 1-5 in the OAC. Mount Union moves to 10-12 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
Mount's Morgan Riley hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning of game one to give the Purple Raiders the 4-3 victory.
The Pioneers scored a run in the top of the sixth to go up 3-2.
Kaitlin Klinchock (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) led off with a double and then came around to score when
Ariann Barile (Roaming Shores, Ohio/Jefferson) singled up the middle.
Alison Kach (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich) (5-6) was tagged with the loss in the circle for the Pioneers. The senior started and went the distance tossing 6.0 innings and giving up four runs, three earned, on 10 hits. She walked two and struck out three.
Allie Scali (4-7) got the win. Scali worked 7.0 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits. She struck out six and didn't issue a walk.
Mount Union grabbed the early lead with a run in the second frame. Brooke Cox started the rally with a leadoff triple. Scali helped her own cause with an RBI single up the middle.
Marietta took the lead with a pair of runs in the fifth.
Lauren Rockocy (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) and
Brey Mays (Bloomingdale, Ohio/Indian Creek) smacked back-to-back solo home runs. Mount Union tied the game with an unearned run in the bottom half of the inning.
Rockocy finished the game 2-for-3 with a home run.
Mount Union scored early and often in the second game. The Purple Raiders scored in each of the first four innings building an 8-1 lead. Three runs in the sixth gave Mount an 11-2 run-rule win.
Jocelyn White (Gibsonia, Pa./Hampton) (2-6) started and pitched 2.2 innings and giving up five runs on eight hits.
Reagan Tom (Chandlersville, Ohio/Philo) worked 1.0 inning and
Kristina LaRocca (Strasburg, Ohio/Strasburg Franklin) threw 2.0 innings.
Hannah Reusser (6-5) picked up the win after throwing 6.0 innings and allowing just two runs on four hits.
Barile led the Pioneers going 2-for-3 in the second game.
