Oberhelman delivers out of the bullpen as Baseball beats Webster 3-1

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — Junior Scott Oberhelman (Washington Twp., N.J./Old Tappan) threw five-plus innings of shutout relief as the No. 18-ranked Pioneers defeated Webster University, 3-1, Monday (March 13) afternoon at the Snowbird Classic.

Oberhelman (1-0) worked a career-best 5.1 innings and gave up just two base hits to get the win. He walked one and struck out two. Tommy Crowl (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day) Started and threw 1.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits. David Stover (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) notched his second save of the season with 2.0 innings of relief. Stover gave up two hits.

Chandler Palyas (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) led off the first inning with a bunt single. After a pop up, Palyas stole second. A strikeout left Marietta with a runner at second and two outs. Eric White (North Royalton, Ohio/North Royalton) delivered a base hit up the middle scoring Palyas.

Webster tied the game in the second. Jake Milosch led off with a double and moved to third on a single off the bat of Ben Dinter. Adam Naliwaj executed the squeeze bunt to score Milosch.

The Etta Express grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the third. Chris Petrucci (Farmington, W.Va./Notre Dame) reached on a one-out double to left. Greg Peffley (Englewood, Ohio/Northmont) moved Petrucci to third with an infield single deep in the hole at second base.

A wild pitch allowed Peffley to move into scoring position. Following a pop up, Hale hit an infield single to short that scored Petrucci. On the play, Webster's shortstop threw the ball away at first allowing Peffley to score making it 3-1.
