BETHANY, W.Va. — The No. 13 ranked Marietta College men's basketball team remained undefeated on the season with an 83-70 win at Bethany College Sunday (Nov. 26) afternoon. The Pioneers improve to 4-0, while Bethany falls to 0-5 on the season.
Kyle Dixon (Poland, Ohio/Poland Seminary) scored 17 second-half points and equaled his career high with 22 points in the game. He nailed five three-pointers and also grabbed five rebounds.
Dillon Young (Laurelville, Ohio/Logan Elm) also drained five triples and scored 19 points, while
Anthony Wallace (Wheeling, W.Va./The Linsly School) added 10 points and
Avery Williams (Nashport, Ohio/Tri-Valley) grabbed eight rebounds.
Young hit three shots from behind the arc in the first three minutes of the game as Marietta sprinted out to a 17-6 lead. A layup from
Caleb Hoyng (Celina, Ohio/Celina) extended the Pioneers lead to 14 points, 31-17, with 7:32 left in the first half.
The Bison cut the margin to six late in the half only to see Marietta score the final five points of the period. MC led 40-29 at halftime.
Marietta maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half. Bethany managed to cut the deficit to six points twice after halftime. Each time the Pioneers answered with a three-pointer.
Liam Davis paced Bethany with 20 points and six rebounds. Calique Jones and Chaice Truex added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
For the game, Marietta shot 48.5% (32-of-66) from the floor, 42.4% (14-of-33) from three-point range and 45.5% (5-of-11) at the free throw line. The Bison were 27-of-57 (47.4%) from the floor, 8-of-20 (40.0%) behind the arc and 8-of-12 (66.7%) at the line.
Marietta edged Bethany on the glass, 39-30. The Pioneers scored 19 points off of 12 Bison turnovers, while committing 11 turnovers of their own.
Marietta travels to Westerville on Wednesday (Nov. 29) to open Ohio Athletic Conference play at Otterbein University. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
