ADA, Ohio — Marietta College saw its volleyball season come to an end in the first round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Tuesday (Oct. 31) evening. No. 18 Ohio Northern defeated the Pioneers in straight sets, 25-13, 25-14 and 25-16.
Marietta finished the season 11-18 overall. Ohio Northern improves to 26-4 on the season and advances to the semifinals. The Polar Bears will host Mount Union, a 3-1 winner over Baldwin Wallace in the first round, on Thursday.
Junior middle blocker
Grace Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) led the Pioneers with six kills. Senior
Darcy Irish (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) and freshman Sam Ritenour had five kills each, while
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) and Hunter Barnes finished with four kills apiece.
Ellie Gerber dished out a team-best 11 assists. Fellow freshman Maddie Nader notched nine assists.
Denallo recorded 18 digs and Shannon Haessly posted nine digs.
Four Pioneers finished their career in the Navy Blue and White. Marietta says goodbye to Denallo, Irish,
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) and
Amber Mauric (Crystal, Minn./Benilde-St. Margaret's School).
