MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team is seeded seventh in the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament and plays at No. 2 seed Ohio Northern University Tuesday (Oct. 31) at 7 p.m.
The Pioneers went 11-17 overall and 3-6 in the OAC during the regular season. Ohio Northern finished 25-4 overall and 8-1 in conference matches tying Otterbein for the first place. The Cardinals earned the No. 1 seed by virtue of their 3-2 win over the Polar Bears.
Ohio Northern swept the Pioneers, 3-0, last Saturday in Ban Johnson Arena. The Polar Bears posted set scores of 25-11, 25-19, and 25-16 in the victory.

Tuesday's other first round matches include No. 8 John Carroll (2-7 OAC) at No. 1 Otterbein (8-1 OAC), No. 6 Baldwin Wallace (4-5 OAC) at No. 3 Mount Union (7-2 OAC), and No. 5 Heidelberg (6-3 OAC) at No. 4 Muskingum (6-3 OAC).
The winners advance into the semifinals on Thursday at the higher seeds. The championship is set for Saturday at the highest remaining seed.
Senior outside hitters
Darcy Irish (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) and
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) lead the Pioneer attack. Irish averages 2.74 kills per set, while Denallo averages 2.33 kills.
Marietta has used a trio of freshmen setters this season.
Aly Wiseman (London, Ohio/Bishop Ready) is averaging 4.43 assists per set, while
Maddie Nader (Vermilion, Ohio/Vermilion) and
Ellie Gerber (New Philadelphia, Ohio/New Philadelphia) have dished out 4.30 and 4.07 assists per set.
Senior
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) is the Pioneer libero and leads the team with 5.19 digs per set. Denallo adds 3.76 digs.
At the net, middle blockers
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Groveport Madison),
Grace Haas (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) and
Sam Ritenour (Jeffersonville, Ohio/Miami Trace) are Marietta's leading blocker. Ritenour, a freshman, averages a team-best 0.65 blocks. Arrowood and Haas average 0.61 and 0.53, respectively.
Tickets are $7 for adults, $5 for senior citizens (62 years and older) and $2 for non-OAC students. OAC students with a valid school ID are admitted free of charge.
