MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team lost to rival Muskingum University by the score of 3-0 Tuesday (Oct. 3) evening in Ban Johnson Arena. The loss drops Marietta to 8-12 overall and 0-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Muskingum improves to 14-3 overall and 2-1 in the OAC.
The Muskies posted set scores of 25-20, 25-13 and 25-15. The first set was tight the entire with eight ties in the frame. Muskingum used a 6-1 run late in the set to build a 22-17 lead and then held on to take the set.
The second set was close early on but Muskingum pulled away with a 6-1 run. Muskingum won seven of the last eight points to put the set away. The Muskies dominated the third set jumping out to a 5-0 lead and then secured the win with 10 straight points later in the set.
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) led the Pioneer attack with eight kills.
Darcy Irish (Lagrange, Ohio/Keystone) added five kills.
Aly Wiseman (London, Ohio/Bishop Ready) posted a team-best 11 assists.
Defensively,
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) had 12 digs, while
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Groveport Madison) and Irish had three blocks each.
Marietta travels to John Carroll University on Saturday (Oct. 7) for a 1 p.m. match.
