MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's soccer team lost to No. 14 Ohio Northern University by the score of 5-0 Friday (Oct. 27) in the final match of the season. The Pioneers finish the season 6-10-2 overall and 2-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Ohio Northern heads into the conference tournament with a 16-1-1 overall record and 9-0 in the OAC.
Haley Moses gave the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute off a cross from Rose Nienaber. ONU benefitted from an own goal five minutes later when the Polar Bears' corner kick was knocked in by a Pioneer defender. Sydney Leshnak made it 3-0 with an unassisted goal in the 26th minute.
The Polar Bears added a pair of second half insurance goals. Nienaber scored with an assist from Courtney Favazzo in the 63rd minute, while Hailey Martin found the back of the net in the 80th minute with an assist from Jenna Fuller.
Senior
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) went the distance in goal for the Pioneers. Tenney recorded six saves in the final match of her career. Marietta's only other senior,
Erika Massie (Warsaw, Ohio/River View), started at forward in her final match.
Meagan Grierson posted three saves in goal for the Polar Bears.ONU outshot the Pioneers 23-3 for the match and held a commanding 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.
