MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team posted a pair of 3-0 wins Saturday (Sept. 3) in the River City Classic. The Pioneers improved to 5-1 on the season after defeating Thiel College and Kentucky Christian University.
In the first match of the day, MC swept Thiel 25-17, 25-22 and 25-21. Two Pioneers recorded double figure kills as
Mallory Vodopich (Canton, Ohio/Massillon Perry) and
Amanda Arrowood (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Groveport Madison) each had 10 in the match. Arrowood finished with a match-high .474 hitting percentage.
Freshmen
Delaney Dawson (Granville, Ohio/Granville) and
Cassie Staten (Athens, Ohio/Athens) shared the setting duties. Dawson dished out 19, while Staten had 12 assists. The duo were also dangerous from the service line with Staten notching four aces and Dawson added three.
Vodopich and
Erica Denallo (Parma, Ohio/Independence) led the defense with 14 digs apiece. Libero
Emily Peters (Elyria, Ohio/Keystone) chipped in with 12 digs.
The Pioneers concluded their successful weekend by blanking Kentucky Christian. Marietta posted game scores of 25-12, 25-18 and 25-13. Denallo and Dawson paced the MC attack with eight and seven kills, respectively.
Serving was again a strength for Marietta as the Pioneers finished with 11 aces in the match. Peters had five and Dawson and Staten had three each. Peters posted a match-high 13 digs. Staten recorded a team-best 16 assists and Dawson contributed 12.
