MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College continues play in the Ohio Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament semifinals at home in Ban Johnson Arena on Thursday (Feb. 25) at 7:30 p.m. The Pioneers, now 24-2 overall, defeated Wilmington College 93-78 in the OAC quarterfinals on Tuesday.
The Pioneers, who added another win to their current 16-game winning streak, are one step closer to clenching their third OAC Tournament title in the last six years and gaining the automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
Marietta will take on the No. 4 seeded Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets, who defeated No. 5 seeded Ohio Northern 86-83 on Tuesday.
The Pioneers took two victories from the Yellow Jackets in the regular season with a 93-78 win at home and a 90-70 win at Baldwin Wallace.
Marietta's leading scorer and rebounder, junior
A.J. Edwards (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) averages 17.3 points and 8.6 rebounds per game. He ranks second in the OAC in rebounds and third in field goal percentage at 58.6%.
The Pioneers' other leading scorers include
Luis Garcia (Miami, Fla./Florida Christian) (14.2 ppg),
Dillon Young (Laurelville, Ohio/Logan Elm) (12.4 ppg), and
Eddy Grenert (Wooster, Ohio/Triway) (10.6 ppg), all three of which average double figures in points per game. Young leads the conference in three-point shooting sinking 49.2% of his shots from behind the arc.
Baldwin Wallace's leading scorer, sophomore Cameron Kuhn, averages 21.6 points per game, which ranks him second in the conference. The Yellow Jackets' other top scorer Jake Fetherolf averages 11.6 point and leads the team in rebounds at 9.9 per game; tops in the conference.
Thursday's other semifinal matchup will take place at No. 2 John Carroll where they will take on No. 3 Mount Union. The winner of the John Carroll/Mount Union match up will move on to the finals set for Saturday (Feb. 27) at the highest remaining seed.
