Wilmington defeats Women's Basketball 90-60

WILMINGTON, Ohio — Wilmington College downed Marietta College by the score of 90-60 Saturday (Dec. 17) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The loss drops the Pioneers to 6-4 overall and 1-3 in the OAC. The Quakers improve to 6-2 on the season and 3-1 in league play.

Marietta scored the first bucket of the game for its only lead of the day. The Pioneers suffered a five-minute scoring drought in the first quarter allowing Wilmington to push its lead into double figures where it would remain for the duration of the game.

The Quakers led 25-8 after the first quarter and 45-23 at halftime. Wilmington shot nearly 60% from the floor in the first half while the Pioneers were ice cold. Marietta hit just one of 10 three-point attempts and shot 29% from the floor in the first two quarters.

Shay Lett (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) led the Pioneers with nine points. Jenna Andersen (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington), Amisha Herd (Zanesville, Ohio/West Muskingum), Jo Herd-Middlebrooks (Columbus, Ohio/DeSales) and Maddy Worden (Canal Fulton, Ohio/Northwest) finished with six points each. Corrie Burkhardt (Zanesville, Ohio/Philo) grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.

Mackenzie Campbell led four Quakers in double figures with 15 points. Mary Moyer and Savannah Hooper each scored 12 points, while Ashley Andracki finished with 10 points.

For the game, Marietta shot 33.3% (24-of-72) from the floor, 14.3% (3-of-21) from three-point range and 60.0% (9-of-15) from the free throw line. Wilmington was 38-of-65 (58.5%) from the floor, 9-of-23 (39.1%) behind the arc and 5-of-10 (50.0%) at the line.

Marietta edged the Quakers on the glass, 41 to 38. The Pioneers turned the ball over 19 times, while Wilmington committed 13 turnovers.

Marietta plays its final nonconference game of the season this Tuesday (Dec. 20) at Washington and Jefferson College.
