ANDERSON, Ind. — Junior center
Jenna Andersen (Columbus, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) notched her first double-double of the season leading the Marietta College women's basketball team to a 74-51 win over Anderson University Saturday (Nov. 19) in the championship game of the Anderson Tip-Off Tournament.
Andersen posted career-highs with 18 points and 10 rebounds to earn all-tournament honors.
Shay Lett (Chillicothe, Ohio/Chillicothe) also scored a new personal best 18 points and joined Andersen on the all-tournament team.
The Ravens (1-2 overall) scored the first basket of the game for their only lead of the day.
Jordanna Rauch (Fleming, Ohio/Warren) tallied the next five points on a layup and a three-pointer to put Marietta (2-1 overall) in front for good.
Rauch hit four three-pointers in the game and finished with a career-best 16 points. In addition to Andersen's 10 boards,
Destiny Johnson (Columbus, Ohio/Walnut Ridge) grabbed seven rebounds and
Alexis Enochs (Beverly, Ohio/Fort Frye) pulled down six as the Pioneers outrebounded the Ravens by 11, 49-38.
Marietta went on a 17-0 run in the second quarter to take complete control of the game. A jumper and three-pointer from Lett capped the run and gave the Pioneers a 36-16 lead with 2:22 left in the second quarter. MC led 36-19 at halftime.
Any hope the Ravens had of a second half comeback was quickly dashed when Rauch nailed a pair of treys to start the third quarter. The Pioneers shot 52% from the floor after halftime and was never in jeopardy.
Kaycee Strunk led the Ravens with 16 points. D'Anjrea Allen chipped in with 15 points and Jireh Hart grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
For the game, Marietta shot 42.4% (28-of-66) from the floor, 42.3% (11-of-26) from three-point range and 87.5% (7-of-8) at the free throw line. Anderson was 18-of-62 (29.0%) from the floor, 2-of-14 (14.3%) behind the arc and 13-of-19 (68.4%) at the line.
