GROVE CITY, Pa. — Grove City College shut out Marietta College 3-0 Saturday (Sept. 5) afternoon in men's soccer action. The Pioneers slip to 0-2 overall, while the Wolverines improve to 2-1 on the season.
Blake Baer put Grove City in front with a goal in the 39th minute. Jon Burton picked up the assist. The Wolverines led 1-0 at halftime.
Goals in the 64th and 76th minutes put the match away for the Wolverines. Tim Shackleton scored an unassisted goal, while Franklin Tropiano assisted on James Hueber's score.
Tyler Sholl (Johnstown/Big Walnut) started in goal for the Pioneers and made five saves, while allowing two goals in 74 minutes of action.
Eric Pierce (Marietta/Marietta) had one save and one goal allowed in the final 16 minutes. Ben Weaver made four saves in the shutout for Grove City.
Grove City outshot the Pioneers 21-13. The Wolverines took seven corner kicks to Marietta's six corners.
