GAMBIER, Ohio — No. 9 ranked Kenyon College defeated Marietta College 4-0 Sunday (Sept. 13) afternoon in men's soccer. The Lords remain undefeated on the season at 5-0, while Marietta slips to 2-3 on the season.
Kenyon wasted little time taking the lead. Josh Lee scored in the eighth minute with an assist from Tony Amoio. Three minutes later Woo Jeon made it 2-0 off an assist from Oliver Wynn.
Kenyon's third goal of the opening period came in the 28th minute from Henry Myers. Jeremiah Barnes picked up the assist on Myers' goal.
Despite what the scoreboard indicated, the Pioneers played Kenyon close in the first half. The Lords outshot Marietta 9-5 in the first 45 minutes and had just one more shot on goal, 4-3, than MC. Sam Clougher had three saves in the first half to keep Marietta off the board.
After playing an overtime match on Saturday, Marietta head coach
Joe Bergin went to his bench in the second half against the Lords. But Kenyon's defense kept the Pioneers off the scoreboard and finished the shutout.
David Resnekov added the final goal of the match for Kenyon. Resnekov tallied an unassisted goal in the 51st minute for a 4-0 lead.
Clougher went the distance in goal for Kenyon and had three saves in the shutout.
Tyler Sholl (Johnstown/Big Walnut) played the first half in goal for Marietta and notched one save, while
Sebastian Parra (Bexley/Bexley) notched six saves in the second half.
Marietta hosts the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg in its home opener on Friday (Sept. 18) for a 4:00 p.m. match. Fans can follow all the Pioneer teams all year long at
