WESTERVILLE, Ohio — Marietta College dropped a pair of one-run games Tuesday (March 31) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference softball action. Otterbein University took game one, 2-1, before completing the sweep with a 9-8 win the second game.
Marietta falls to 10-12 overall and 3-3 in the OAC. The Cardinals improve to 7-13 on the season and 3-3 in the OAC.
Courtney Hanna and Maddie Flasco had run-scoring singles for the Cardinals in the second inning staking Otterbein to the early 2-0 lead. Marietta cut the margin to one with a run in the fourth.
Ariann Barile (Roaming Shores/Jefferson) drove in
Rachel Montgomery (Massillon/Perry) with a ground out.
Rachael Owens (4-7) got the win. Owens pitched 7.0 innings and allowed one run on five hits. She walked two and struck out two. Senior
Alexis O'Hair (Maumee/Maumee) (2-2) took the loss. O'Hair worked 6.0 innings and gave up two runs on six hits with three walks and three strikeouts.
Montgomery and
Brey Mays (Bloomingdale/Indian Creek) each had two hits in the game for Marietta.
In the second game, Otterbein scored a run in the second, three more in the third and then added five in the fourth inning. The Pioneers stayed closed putting six runs on the board in the top of the fourth. Marietta's comeback bid fell shorts as MC plated two in the seventh before Otterbein shut the door.
Owens (5-7) got her second win of the day throwing 3.2 innings of relief. She allowed two runs on three hits. Megan Garner started and lasted 3.0 innings before turning the game over to the bullpen. Garner allowed two runs on three hits.
Lauren Larrick (Leesburg/Fairfield Local) started in the circle for Marietta. She allowed four runs on five hits in 2.2 innings of work.
Kristina LaRocca (Strasburg/Strasburg Franklin) (1-6) took over and was tagged with the loss. LaRocca surrendered four runs on two hits.
Marietta got on the board in the fourth inning on a two-run home run off the bat of Montgomery.
Brianna Finck (New Lexington/Crooksville)e and
Cierra Bloom (Dennison/Claymont) picked up RBIs on bases loaded walks, while
Courtney Kerwood (Nashport/Tri-Valley) knocked in a run with a ground out.
Kerwood was the lone Pioneer with two hits in the game.
