Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's Basketball stings the Yellow Jackets 93-78

MARIETTA, Ohio — The No. 8-ranked Marietta College men's basketball team stayed perfect in Ohio Athletic Conference play with a 93-78 win over Baldwin Wallace University Wednesday (Dec. 16) evening. The Pioneers are 8-1 overall and 4-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Yellow Jackets fall to 6-3 on the season and 2-2 in the OAC.

Baldwin Wallace sophomore Cameron Kuhn caused the Pioneer defense trouble all evening. Kuhn drained five three-pointers and poured in a game-high 35 points but got little help from anyone else. Marietta countered with its usual balanced attack.

The Pioneers led for over 35 minutes including the entire second half. Marietta jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and took advantage of 16-5 run to push the margin to 11 points, 20-9, with 13:05 left in the first half.

BW slowly worked its way back into the game. Kuhn hit a trey with 6:08 left on the clock to knot the score at 29. The Yellow Jackets took their only lead of the game on another Kuhn three-pointer and led by five, 36-31, on a layup from Michael Peters.

Marietta finished the first half on a 7-0 run and took a 38-36 lead into halftime. MC continued its run in the second half scoring the first eight points of the period to lead by 10, 46-36. The lead would remain in double digits for the majority of the second half.

A.J. Edwards (Twinsburg, Ohio/Twinsburg) and Brennan McKean (Jeromesville, Ohio/Northwestern) each posted career-highs in points. Edwards led the Pioneers with 23 points, while McKean finished with 21. Eddy Grenert (Wooster, Ohio/Triway) notched a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Jack Thome (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Chagrin Falls) chipped in with a career-best 11 points. Point guard Dillon Young (Laurelville, Ohio/Logan Elm) recorded nine assists.

In addition to Kuhn's 35 points, Jay Battle scored 10 points and Jake Fetherolf grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.

For the game, Marietta shot 52.2% (36-of-69) from the floor, 31.8% (7-of-22) from three-point range and 87.5% (14-of-16) at the line. Baldwin Wallace was 33-of-67 (49.3%) from the floor, 8-of-29 (27.6%) behind the arc and 4-of-5 (80.0%) at the line.

The Pioneers dominated the glass outrebounding BW 42-27. Both teams took good care of the basketball with the Yellow Jackets committing eight turnovers and the Pioneers just seven.

It will be a battle of Top-10 teams when Marietta travels to No. 10 John Carroll University on Saturday (Dec. 19).
