ALLIANCE, Ohio — Jonathan Akindipe scored in the 97th minute leading the University of Mount Union to a 2-1 overtime victory against Marietta College Tuesday (Oct. 6) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The Purple Raiders improve to 6-3-1 overall and 1-1 in the OAC. Marietta slips to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the OAC.
Akindipe accounted for both Mount Union goals. The sophomore forward leveled the match at 1-1 in the 86th minute with an assist from Mitchell Tiah. The game winner in extra time was unassisted.
Neither team scored in the first 45 minutes. The Pioneers took five shots in the first period, including three on goal, while Mount had three shots and only one on goal.
Marietta scored first in the 72nd minute. Sophomore
Tyler Bro (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) tallied his first goal of the season to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Eight minutes later Marietta was whistled for a hand ball in the box giving Mount a penalty kick to even the match.

Tyler Sholl (Johnstown/Big Walnut) made the huge save to keep the Pioneers in front. With time running out on the Raiders, Akindipe scored the equalizer to force overtime.
Luke Saunders (Groveport/Groveport Madison) picked up his second yellow card of the match forcing Marietta to play a man down. 14 seconds later Akindipe scored the game winner.
For the match, Marietta outshot the Raiders 12-10. Mount Union held a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks. Sholl finished with three saves, while Dylan Lias had six saves for Mount Union.
