ADA, Ohio — Ohio Northern University broke open a scoreless match with seven second half goals to defeat Marietta College 7-0 Friday (Oct. 30) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference women's soccer action. The Polar Bears improve to 11-7-1 overall and 7-2 in the OAC. Marietta finishes the season 0-19 overall and 0-9 in the OAC.
Ohio Northern went on the attack early and kept the pressure on Marietta's defense all day long. Pioneer keeper
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Orange) stymied the Polar Bears with 10 saves in the first half.
After a scoreless first half, ONU tallied two goals in the first 2:23 of the second half. Haley Napier notched the game winner in the 47th minute with an assist from Alex Weirich. Less than a minute later Missy Ward scored an unassisted goal.
Shelby Stephens tallied an unassisted goal in the 54th minute and then picked up an assist in the 55th minute on a goal by McKenna Welsh for a 4-0 Polar Bear lead.
Kathleen Carley, Abbey Oswald and Sarah Puntel each added an unassisted goal in the later minutes of the second half.
Tenney went the distance in goal for the Pioneers and finished with 11 saves. Emily Brodict, Jordyn Roelofs and Ashley Grisnik combined on the shutout for ONU.
For the match, Ohio Northern outshot the Pioneers 33-4. The Polar Bears took nine corner kicks to just one for Marietta.
