TIFFIN, Ohio — Marietta College and Heidelberg University battled to a 1-1 double overtime tie Saturday (Oct. 24) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference men's soccer action. The Pioneers are now 8-8-1 overall and 3-3-1 in the OAC, while Heidelberg is 6-7-4 overall and 4-2-1 in league play.
The Student Prince drew first blood with an early goal in the 18th minute. Greg Raimondo's direct kick deflected off of a Marietta defender and into the back of the net for his second goal of the season.
Heidelberg stayed on the attack in the first period taking 10 shots to Marietta's five. MC keeper
Tyler Sholl (Johnstown, Ohio/Big Walnut) made three saves, while Jake Kress matched him with three saves for the Student Princes in the first half.
Sholl continued his strong play turning away five Berg shots in the second half as the Pioneers managed to keep the Student Princes off the scoreboard.
Marietta turned to the leading goal scorer in the OAC for the equalizer. Senior
Taylor Reasoner (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) recorded his 13th goal of the season in the 82nd minute to level the match at 1-1.
Jake Hannahs (Irwin, Pa./Norwin) provided the assist on the score.
Each team took two shots in overtime. Heidelberg had a pair in the first extra period, while the Pioneers had one in each of the two overtime periods.
For the match, Heidelberg outshot the Pioneers 18-14. The Student Princes held a slim 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
Sholl finished the match with nine saves and Kress had three.
