Baldwin Wallace blanks Football

BEREA, Ohio — Baldwin Wallace University scored twice in the final three minutes of the first half to break a scoreless tie en route to a 38-0 win over Marietta College Saturday (Oct. 10) afternoon in George Finnie Stadium. The Yellow Jackets improve to 3-2 overall and 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Marietta falls to 1-4 on the season and 1-3 in the OAC.

Marietta had two sustained drives in the first quarter but failed to convert either into points. The Pioneers drove to the Baldwin Wallace 25-yard line before stalling and missed a 42-yard field goal attempt. On its next possession, Marietta drove to the BW 24 before turning the ball over on downs.

Baldwin Wallace got on the board with 3:03 left in the first half when quarterback Tyler Moeglin ran it in from four yards outs. Joe Simonis added the point after. Moeglin's run capped a nine-play, 85-yard drive for the Yellow Jackets.

BW then held the Pioneers to three plays and a punt. Brian Stepp got a piece of the Pioneer punt and the Yellow Jackets took over at the Marietta 16-yard line. Five straight running plays resulted in a two-yard touchdown for Adam Blake and a 14-0 BW lead at the break.

The second half was all Baldwin Wallace as the Yellow Jackets possessed the ball for over 20 of the 30 second-half minutes. Marietta was limited to just four possessions after halftime and was forced to punt on each of them.

Moeglin hit Bryon Cook on an eight-yard touchdown pass for the only points of the third quarter. BW added 17 more in the final period. Simonis hit a 32-yard field goal, while Moeglin and Cook reconnected on a 43-yard scoring strike. BW's final touchdown was a two-yard run from Robbie Plagens.

Lucas Havens (Granville Summit, Pa./Troy Area) completed 11-of-27 passes for 103 yards. Five different Pioneers caught two passes in the game. Nick O'Neal (Mont Belvieu, Texas/Barbers Hill) led the MC ground attack with 54 yards on 11 carries. Roger Bush (Palm Bay, Fla./Bayside) added 42 yards on 11 attempts.

Moeglin completed 15-of-22 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Tyler Wolf caught three passes for 36 yards, while Cook finished with two catches for 51 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Adam Blake carried the ball nine times for 55 yards and one TD.

Linebacker Jeremy Pratt (St. Marys, W.Va./St. Marys) led the Marietta defense with a game-high 13 tackles. Defensive lineman Dalton Secrest (Beallsville/Beallsville) made eight tackles. Baldwin Wallace was led by linebacker Sam Groff's eight tackles.
