ALLIANCE, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team dropped a 71-57 decision at the University of Mount Union Wednesday (Jan. 21) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference action. The Pioneers fall to 6-10 overall and 2-7 in the OAC, while the Purple Raiders improve to 7-9 on the season and 3-6 in the OAC.
Seniors
Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) and
Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) led Marietta with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Booth also grabbed a team-best eight rebounds.
Mount's Annie Bova led all scorers with 24 points. Isabella Pecchia added 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds.
The Purple Raiders led by as many as nine points in the first half and maintained the lead for all but the final few minutes. Marietta ended the half on an 11-0 run and took a 36-29 lead into halftime.
Marietta managed to keep the lead until Bova nailed a three-pointer with 9:20 left in the game to put Mount Union in front, 49-47. The remained close and over the next four minutes and was tied, 54-54, at the 5:34 mark. The Purple Raiders closed with a 17-3 run to earn the victory.
Marietta shot 37.5% (24-of-64) from the floor, 23.1% (3-of-13) from three-point range and 60.0% (6-of-10) at the line. Mount Union was 24-of-58 (41.4%) from the floor, 5-of-18 (27.8%) behind the arc and 18-of-24 (75.0%) at the line.
Marietta edged the Purple Raiders on the glass 42-39. The Pioneers turned the ball over 16 times, while Mount Union committed 14 turnovers.
