Box Score FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Methodist University cruised to a 5-0 win over Marietta College Saturday (Sept. 6) in men's soccer action. The Monarchs improve to 3-0 in the season, while the Pioneers fall to 2-1 overall.
Seth Harrison scored an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute to get the Monarchs rolling. Methodist added another goal in the 38th minute to lead 2-0 at the half. The Monarch defense was equally impressive limiting Marietta to just one shot in the first half.
After the intermission, Methodist tacked on three more scores. Eirik Nordseth tallied goals in the 52nd and 58th minutes, while Chris Ryan made it 5-0 with a goal in the 63rd minute.
Methodist outshot Marietta 15-2 and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Eric Pierce (Marietta/) started in goal for the Pioneers and made eight saves in 63 minutes of action. He was charged with all five goals allowed.
Tyler Sholl (Johnstown/Big Walnut) played the final 27 minutes.
