Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – Despite dominating play for most of the match, the Marietta College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Defiance College Friday (Sept. 5) at Marietta Field. The Pioneers fall to 0-3 overall, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Pioneers outshot Defiance 19-4, but the Yellow Jackets made the most of their opportunities scoring one goal in each half of play. Defiance took the early lead when Kassie Memmer lofted a shot over the Marietta keeper from 12 yards out in the 10th minute.

Layne Archer (Duncan Falls/Philo) just missed the equalizer at the 43:44 mark. Archer got loose inside the Yellow Jacket 18-yard box and rocketed a shot of the right post. Senior
Danielle Chirdon (Newark/Lakewood) collected the ricochet but missed on the follow-up wide right.
Defiance struck again just over three minutes into the second half. Lindsay Bubnick took a pass from Erica Islas at the top of the 18-yard box and placed the ball into the lower left corner of the net for a 2-0 Yellow Jacket lead.
Marietta stayed on the attack taking 11 shots in the final 45 minutes. Defiance keeper June Delgreco rose to the challenge making six saves and recording the clean sheet victory.
Archer tried to get the Pioneers on the board in the 88th minute, but her header hit the right post and bounced out.
Sophomore
Sam Kelley (Columbus/Hilliard Davidson) started in goal for the Pioneers and surrendered both goals. Freshman
Brittany Wolfe (Lancaster/Lancaster) played the final 33 minutes. Neither keeper had a save.
In addition to the lopsided shot totals, Marietta also held a significant 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.
