Box Score LEXINGTON, Ky. — Transylvania University scored three first half goals and then held on to defeat Marietta College by the score of 3-2 Saturday (Sept. 27) evening in men's soccer action. Transylvania improves to 4-4 overall, while Marietta falls to 2-6 on the season.
Ben Rossoll scored the first two goals of the match to give Transy the early lead. Rossoll tallied the first in the 15th minute with an assist from Tate Spivey. His second goal was unassisted and came in the 23rd minute.
Senior
Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta) responded with an unassisted goal in the 26th minute to cut the TU lead in half. The goal was Riley's seventh on the season.
Max Robinson extended the Transylvania lead back to two goals with an unassisted score in the 37th minute. TU took the 3-1 lead into halftime.
Marietta got within a goal in the 58th minute when junior
Taylor Reasoner (Hudson/Hudson) put one in the back of the net with an assist from Riley. The goal was Reasoner's first of the season.
Transylvania's defense limited Marietta's opportunities to get the equalizer in the final 30-plus minutes. The Pioneers managed just two shots after Reasoner's goal.
Cody Waltrip made five saves in goal for Transylvania, while sophomore
Sebastian Parra (Bexley/Bexley) had one for Marietta.
Transylvania took 11 shots in the match to Marietta's 10. TU had a slim 5-3 advantage in corner kicks.
