Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio — Despite controlling the ball for most of the match, the Marietta College women's soccer team lost to Hiram College by the score of 1-0 Monday (Sept. 22) afternoon at Marietta Field. The Pioneers slip to 0-8-1 on the season while Hiram moves to 4-3-1 overall.
The Pioneers dominated the first 10 minutes of the match possessing the ball in Hiram's defensive third of the field. Marietta had several good crosses into the box but couldn't get a quality shot off.
The match was scoreless at halftime with the each team taking three shots and two corner kicks. Marietta keeper
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike/Orange) had three first half saves, while Hiram's Kailie Reed had two.
The Terriers broke the scoring drought in the 69th minute. Allie Glatt split a pair of Pioneer defenders, dribbled inside the 18-yard box and slipped the ball into the lower left corner of the net. The goal was Glatt's seventh of the season.
Marietta had a couple of opportunities to tie the match but saw the close-range shots sail over the crossbar. For the match, he Pioneers outshot Hiram 9-5 and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Both Tenney and Reed finished with four saves in the match.
