Box Score 2 MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team swept a pair of non-conference matches Saturday (Sept. 20) afternoon in Ban Johnson Arena. The Pioneers defeated Denison University 3-1 and Thiel College 3-0.
Marietta (4-10 overall) posted set scores of 25-16, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-21 against the Big Red from Denison (6-7 overall).
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) and
Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) led the Pioneer attack with 14 and 12 kills, respectively.
Middle blocker
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) and setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) dominated play at the net with six blocks apiece. Mauer collected 37 assists and had 16 digs. Libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) notched a team-high 28 digs, while
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) added 27.
After a close first set, the Pioneers blew by Thiel (5-9 overall) with scores of 26-24, 25-9 and 25-18. Janson had another strong showing with a match-best 12 kills and four blocks. Freshman
Erica Denallo (Independence/Independence) had eight kills and 10 digs.
Ervin and Clyde anchored the back line with 21 and 16 digs, respectively. Sophomore
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) added eight digs and four service aces. Freshman
Madison Taggart (Milford/Milford) posted four blocks.
The Pioneers open Ohio Athletic Conference play at 8:00 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 26) at home against Heidelberg University. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at
