Oberlin needs overtime to beat Women's Soccer 2-1

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio — Oberlin College scored in the 98th minute to down Marietta College 2-1 Saturday (Sept. 20) afternoon in women's soccer action. The overtime goal lifted the Yoemen to 2-3 on the season, while the Pioneers slip to 0-7-1 overall.

Oberlin jumped on top with a goal in the 27th minute. Tyler Sloan sent a cross into the 18-yard box where Gwennie Gardiner collected the pass and slipped the ball by the Marietta keeper. The goal was Gardiner's second of the season.

Freshman Alexis McKenzie (Lancaster/Bloom Carroll) scored the equalizer early in the second half. McKenzie scored in the 49th minute off a cross from sophomore Layne Archer (Duncan Falls/Philo). The goal was McKenzie's second on the fall.

The score remained tied, 1-1, at the end of regulation. Oberlin tallied the game-winner just over seven minutes into extra time. Hannah Cook scored an unassisted goal from inside the 18-yard box.

Oberlin outshot Marietta 12-6 for the match and took four corners to the Pioneers' three. Freshman Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike/Orange) went the distance in goal for Marietta and made four saves. Kate Frost had five saves in net for Oberlin.
