Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio — The Kenyon College men's soccer team demonstrated why its ranked No. 2 in the nation with a convincing 2-0 win over Marietta College Saturday (Sept. 20) afternoon. The Lords limited the Pioneers to just two shots in the match.
Kenyon (7-0 overall) got on the board early when Tony Amolo tallied an unassisted goal from outside the 18-yard box. The goal was his eighth of the season. Nate Petrou headed one in off a cross from Alex Christoff in the 41st minute to give Kenyon a 2-0 lead at the half.
The Pioneers blanked Kenyon in the second half behind a great performance from reserve keeper
Tyler Sholl (Johnstown/Big Walnut). Sholl entered the match at the start of the second half and played brilliantly making six saves to keep Marietta within striking distance.
Kenyon's defense swarmed the Pioneers all afternoon severely limiting Marietta's opportunities. The Lords outshot Marietta 20-2 and held a 12-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Sam Clougher notched the shutout in goal for Kenyon recording a pair of saves. Freshman
Eric Pierce (Marietta/) started in goal for Marietta and had one save in the first half before turning the gloves over to Sholl at halftime.
