Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to Carnegie Mellon University Wednesday (Sept. 17) evening in Ban Johnson Arena. The Tartans posted set scores of 25-16, 23-25, 25-19 and 25-18 in the victory.
Carnegie Mellon (6-2 overall) came out firing on all cylinders in the first set. The Tartans had a blistering .414 attack percentage recording 13 kills and just one error in 29 total attacks.
Marietta (2-10 overall) took advantage of several CMU errors to win the second set. The Pioneers then suffered a run of attack errors committing 20 miscues in the final two sets.
Junior middle blocker
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) led the Pioneers with 14 kills and four blocks. Freshman
Erica Denallo (Independence/Independence) added nine kills, while juniors
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School),
Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) and
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) each had five kills.
Libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) posted a match-high 27 digs from the back line. Clyde and sophomore
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) had 15 digs each, while Denallo recorded 13. Senior setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) chipped in with 11 digs and a match-high 35 assists.
Marietta hosts Denison University and Thiel College for a tri-match on Saturday (Sept. 20). The Pioneers play Denison at 1:00 p.m. and Thiel at 5:00 p.m.
