Box Score WAYNESBURG, Pa. — Waynesburg University scored three second half goals to defeat Marietta College 5-2 Wednesday (Sept. 17) evening in men's soccer. The Pioneers fall to 2-3 on the season, while Waynesburg improves to 2-3-2 overall.
The Yellow Jackets struck first with a goal in the fourth minute of the match by Cody Lemke. Chad Palucka had the assist. Lemke would go on to record a hat trick in the match with two goals in the second half.
An own goal by Waynesburg in the fifth minute tied the score at 1-1. Colin Nelson inadvertently knocked the ball into the Yellow Jacket net.
Senior
Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta) put Marietta in front when he scored off an assist from
Brent Huck (Marietta/Marietta) in the 18th minute. The goal was Riley's sixth of the season.
Waynesburg slipped one in just before halftime to knot the match at 2-2. Nick Brommer picked up the assist on James Sneed's goal. Brommer added the game winning goal early in the second period when he scored off an assist from Victor Brown.
Lemke converted a penalty kick in the 82nd minute for his second goal of the match. He completed the hat trick less than four minutes later when he scored off an assist from Brommer.
Freshman
Eric Pierce (Marietta/) had six saves in goal for Marietta, while Brandon Daughtry made five stops for the Yellow Jackets. For the match, Waynesburg outshot the Pioneers 20-10 and held a 7-0 advantage in corner kicks.
