Box Score 2 HIRAM, Ohio — The Marietta College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday (Sept. 13) afternoon at Hiram College. The Pioneers swept Hilbert College 3-0 and then lost to Hiram by the same score. Marietta is 2-9 on the season.
Marietta posted set scores of 25-8, 25-22 and 25-16 in the victory against Hilbert (2-8 overall). Juniors
Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) and
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) led the Pioneer attack. Oliver-Smith had a match-high 10 kills and recorded a .368 attack percentage. Janson finished with six kills, a .455 attack percentage and five blocks.
The Pioneers' back line played well as junior
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) returned to the lineup after missing several matches with an injury. Ervin had 12 digs. Sophomore
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) and freshman
Erica Denallo (Independence/Independence) posted 14 and 13 digs, respectively.
Senior setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) directed the Marietta attack dishing out 17 assists.
In the second match, Hiram (10-1 overall) defeated the Pioneers 25-14, 25-18 and 25-20. Marietta's attack struggled against the Terriers committing 35 attack errors to go along with just 25 kills.
Janson, Moskaluk and freshman
Madison Taggart (Milford/Milford) each had seven kills for the Pioneers. Ervin had a team-high 16 digs, while Mauer notched 19 assists.
