McDaniel and Messiah edge Volleyball

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GETTYSBURG, Pa. — The Marietta College volleyball team concluded play in the Gettysburg College Battlefield Classic on Saturday (Aug. 30) afternoon dropping two matches by identical 3-1 scores. The Pioneers fall to 0-4 on the season.

McDaniel College (3-0 overall) downed the Pioneers 14-25, 25-16, 25-22 and 25-19. Junior Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) had an outstanding match for Marietta posting a match-high 19 kills and a .375 attack percentage. Fellow junior Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) added 13 kills.

Clyde had a team-high 12 digs, while freshman defensive specialist Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) had 10 digs. Junior libero Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) recorded four service aces and senior setter Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) collected a match-high 42 assists.

Messiah College (2-1 overall) posted set scores of 23-25, 25-21, 25-23 and 25-17 to defeat the Pioneers. Junior middle blocker Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) dominated play at the net with 16 kills, a .400 attack percentage and seven blocks. Junior Alexis Callaway (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) chipped in with 10 kills.

Ervin recorded 38 digs and three service aces, while Walter posted four blocks. Mauer again directed the Pioneer attack recording 34 assists.
