Box Score 2 MARIETTA, Ohio — Senior
Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta) scored twice in the first six minutes to lead Marietta College over Piedmont College by the score of 2-1 Saturday (Aug. 30) in the first round of the 30th annual Marietta Soccer Classic.
Both goals were nearly identical as Riley took received long passes and created one-on-one situations with the Piedmont keeper. Sophomore
Michael Nauls (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) picked up the assist on the first goal in the fourth minute, while freshman
Tyler Bro (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg) assisted on MC's goal less than two minutes later.
The Lions cut the lead in half in the 35th minute when Ryan Herbert's corner kick found Shawn Williams in the six-yard box. Williams buried the ball in the back of the net making it 2-1.
The defenses took over in the second half as neither team managed much of an attack. For the match, Piedmont outshot Marietta 11-7 and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Sophomore
Sebastian Parra (Bexley, Ohio/Bexley) made his first collegiate start in goal for the Pioneers. Parra made five saves. Piedmont keeper Kenneth Hearn didn't record a save.
In the first match of the day, the College of Wooster defeated Bethany College by the score of 4-1. Piedmont will play Bethany in the consolation match at noon on Sunday.
