Women's Basketball defeats Muskingum 82-73

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College defeated Muskingum University by the score of 82-73 Thursday (Feb. 6) in women's basketball action. With the win Marietta splits the season series with the Muskies and improves to 10-10 on the season. The Pioneers are 4-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Neither team took control in the first half as there were nine lead changes. Muskingum (5-14 overall, 3-10 OAC) jumped on top early with a couple of quick baskets but that four-point lead would be it's biggest of the evening.

A layup from Paige Lamb (Marietta/Marietta) with six minutes left in the opening period gave Marietta an eight-point lead, 29-21. The Pioneers led by four at the half, 36-32.

The Pioneers quickly extended the lead to nine points in the opening minutes of the second half. A three-pointer from Jordanna Rauch (Fleming/Warren) made it 50-41 in favor of Marietta.

Muskingum used the three-pointer to keep Marietta from pulling away. The Muskies hit nine from behind the arc in the game including five from Taylor Maurer.

Two free throws from Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) with 2:25 remaining gave Marietta its biggest lead of the game, 76-61. Muskingum managed to cut the lead back to seven on two occasions, but could get no closer.

Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) led five Pioneers in double figures with 17 points. Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) just missed a double-double with 15 points and nine rebounds. Brogan finished with 13 points and five boards.

Freshman Morgan Liedtke (Lowell/Fort Frye) added 12 points and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds. Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) chipped in with 11 points.

Maurer and Tori Jarrett led the Muskies with 15 points each. Jasmine Goings scored 12 points and pulled down five rebounds, while Mallory Taylor had 11 points. Gabbi Davis led all players with 10 rebounds.

Marietta outrebounded Muskingum 51-40. The Pioneers committed 15 turnovers, while Muskingum turned the ball over just nine times.

For the game, Marietta shot 46.7% (28-of-60) from the floor, 31.6% (6-of-19) from three-point range and 71.4% (20-of-28) at the line. Muskingum was 28-of-79 (35.4%) from the floor, 9-of-29 (1.0%) behind the arc and 8-of-9 (88.9%) at the line.
