Box Score ALLIANCE, Ohio – The University of Mount Union defeated Marietta College by the score of 94-83 Wednesday (Feb. 19) evening in women's basketball action. The Purple Raiders evened their record at 12-12. They are 6-12 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Pioneers slip to 10-14 overall and 4-13 in the OAC.
Junior
Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) scored a career-high 26 points to lead all scorers. Brogan was 9-of-12 from the floor and 7-of-10 at the line. Senior
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) hit three treys and finished with 22 points, while junior
Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) chipped in with 16 points. Junior
Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) grabbed a game-high eight rebounds.
Five Purple Raiders scored in double figures led by Annie Bova and Amanda Turner's 15 points. Katie Reed scored 14 points, while Chandler Moore notched 11 and Sarah Grippi added 10 points. Grippi had a team-best five rebounds.
After trading baskets in the early going, senior
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) hit a three-pointer to cap a 7-0 Pioneer run and give Marietta its biggest lead of the game, 18-12, with 12:24 left in the first half. Mount Union answered with a 7-2 run to retake the lead, 21-20 midway through the period.
The Purple Raiders got hot from three-point range hitting four during a 20-6 surge that put Mount up by 15 points, 41-26, with 4:48 left in the half. Marietta cut the deficit to seven points, 43-36, with a 10-2 run to end the half.
Mount Union scored the first two buckets of the second half to push the lead to 11 points. Following a three-pointer from Turner at the 13:15 mark that made it 53-42, the Pioneers scored 11 unanswered point to even the score at 53 with 11:10 remaining.
A pair of free throws from
Mackenzie Kiser (Windham/Champion) with 5:13 remaining tied the game at 71. Mount Union outscored the Pioneers 16-4 over the next three minutes to put the game away.
