Capital knocks off Women's Basketball 80-59

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – Capital University defeated Marietta College by the score of 80-59 Wednesday (Feb. 12) evening in Ohio Athletic Conference women's basketball action. The Pioneers fall to 10-12 on the season and 4-11 in the OAC. Capital improves to 14-7 overall and 11-4 in league play.

Capital took advantage of Marietta's cold shooting to build an early 12-4 lead. MC battled back to tie the game at 15 with 9:29 left in the opening period. However Capital quickly pushed the margin back to eight points and a jumper at the buzzer from Nina Napolitano gave the Crusaders a 12 point lead at halftime, 42-30.

The Crusaders capitalized on 16 Pioneer turnovers converting them into 20 points, while allowing Marietta just two points off CU's seven turnovers. Capital's lead ballooned to as many as 22 points in the second half as the Crusaders controlled the game over the final 20 minutes of play.

Senior Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) led the Pioneers with 11 points hitting three from behind the arc. Juniors Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) and Sierra Sigman (Chillicothe/Zane Trace) each scored 10 points and Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.?
Lauren Stefancin led five Crusaders in double figures with 16 points off the bench. Cookie Geroski scored 12 points, while Simonne Gage and Monica Heckman chipped in with 11 points each. Jamie Caton added 10.

Capital outrebounded the Pioneers 43-41. Kristen Thompson led the Crusaders with eight boards.

For the game, Marietta shot 38.2% (21-of-55) from the floor, 26.3% (5-of-19) from three-point range and 63.2% (12-of-19) at the line. Capital was 31-of-73 (42.5%) from the floor, 10-of-20 (50.0%) behind the arc and 8-of-13 (61.5%) at the line.
