#24 Ohio Northern dispatches Women's Basketball 66-46

Box Score ADA, Ohio – No. 24-ranked Ohio Northern University lead start to finish as the Polar Bears defeated Marietta College 66-46 Saturday (Feb. 1) afternoon in women's basketball action. The Loss drops Marietta to 9-10 on the season and 3-9 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Ohio Northern (15-4, 8-4 OAC) used an 8-0 run to take control, of the game in the opening minutes. The Polar Bears led by as many as 12 points in the first half. Marietta managed to cut the deficit to one, 23-22, with 4:34 left in the opening period. ONU led 33-26 at halftime.

Marietta struggled from the floor in the second half shooting just 29%. As the Pioneers cooled off, ONU pulled away. The Polar Bears hit nine three-pointers in the game and maintained a double-digit lead throughout the second period.

Junior Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) led the Pioneers with 17 points. Brogan was a perfect 8-of-8 at the free throw line. Classmate Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) scored 12 points and freshman Mackenzie Kiser (Windham/Champion) chipped in with nine. Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Jordan Kimes and Karissa Steffas each scored 12 points to pace the Polar Bears. Brooke Espenschied just missed a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds. Cenzie Yoder pulled down a game-high 11 boards, while Kimes grabbed eight rebounds.

Ohio Northern outrebounded Marietta 48-36. The Polar Bears forced 15 Pioneer turnovers, while committing 13.

For the game, Marietta shot 29.6% (16-of-54) from the floor, 10.0% (1-of-10) behind the arc and 81.3% (13-of-16) at the free throw line. Ohio Northern was 24-of-65 (36.9%) from the floor, 9-of-20 (45.0%) from three-point range and 9-of-16 (56.3%) at the line.
