MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College women's basketball team prepares to host Muskingum University for their Ohio Athletic Conference home opener on Wednesday (Dec. 3). The Pioneers split with the Muskies a year ago with each team winning on their home court.
Marietta, with an overall record of 3-2 begins the OAC season picked sixth in the conference while Muskingum (2-3) was picked 10th in the preseason polls.
As conference play commences Marietta's
Heather Booth (Newport/Frontier) comes in as the team's top scorer at 10.4 points per game. The senior also averages 5.8 rebounds.
Other top scorers include seniors
Jessica Brogan (Cincinnati/Anderson) and
Candice Alexander (Fairborn/Fairborn), and freshman
Brooke Borich (Beverly/Fort Frye). All three players average 9.2 ppg. Brogan also has a team high of 7.6 rebounds per game while Borich claims 1.6 rpg and Alexander 1.8 rpg.
The last of the Pioneers' probable starters includes freshman
Laura Frazee (Fresno/Ridgewood) and sophomore
Emily Sabatino (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown). Frazee averages 5.4 ppg and Sabatino 3.8 ppg. Sabatino has dished out eight assists and Frazee averages 3.8 rebounds.
Muskingum's leading scorers are senior Taylor Maurer with an average of 11.8 ppg and junior Angela Darnley with 10.8 ppg. The two also lead the team in steals with a combined total of 24.
Also in the Muskies' probable starting lineup are sophomores Jasmine Goings and Mallory Taylor. Goings sinks 9.6 ppg while Taylor puts in 8.8 ppg. Taylor has the team high of 7.4 rebounds per game and, together, the sophomore duo adds nine steals to the team's total.
Concluding the starting lineup is Olivia Besancon. The freshman scores 6.6 ppg on average and 3.4 rebounds.
