MARIETTA, Ohio — The Marietta College men's basketball team is gearing up to take on rival Muskingum University in their first Ohio Athletic Conference game of the season on Wednesday (Dec. 3).
The Pioneers were picked second in the preseason poll and carry an overall record of 5-0 this season. The Muskies begin OAC play with an overall record of 2-3 and were picked ninth in preseason poll. Marietta swept the two-game series from Muskingum last winter.
Marietta's
Garrett Stephenson (West Milton/Milton-Union) (senior) and
Luis Garcia (Miami, Fla./Florida Christian) (junior) lead the Pioneers into the 2014 OAC season as the top scorers. Stephenson is the frontrunner with 12.2 points per game while Garcia follows at 12.0 ppg. Garcia is also a perfect 14-of-14 at the free throw line.
Other top scorers for the Pioneers include senior
Andy Dollman (Vienna, W.Va./Parkersburg) (10.6 ppg) and junior
Eddy Grenert (Wooster/Triway) (9.6 ppg). Grenert is also the leader in rebounds with a team high of 8.4 per game.
The last of the Pioneers' probable starters is junior
A.J. Ireland (Carroll/Bloom-Carroll). Ireland sinks 6.6 ppg and averages 2.4 rebounds. He is also one of the team's top players in assists with a total of 11.
The Muskies' leaders on the scoreboard consist of senior Logan Kimble and sophomore Joshua Keyes. Kimble averages 14.2 ppg while Keyes averages 10.2. Combined, the teammates claim a total of 16 steals.
Junior Cody Seiler is next in the lineup with 9.6 ppg and 11 steals. Seiler also averages 5.8 rebounds.
The last of the probable starters for Muskingum is sophomore Joshua Glass and junior Christian Keller. Glass adds an average of 9.0 ppg to the team's total while Keller contributes 8.0 ppg. Keller holds the team high in steals with 12.
