MARIETTA, Ohio — Marietta College's women's soccer team lost to Ohio Northern University by the score of 3-0 Saturday (Nov. 1) afternoon in the its season finale. The Pioneers finish the season with a 1-15-3 overall record and 1-6-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. The Polar Bears improve to 10-6-2 overall and 6-2-1 in the OAC.
Anna Niemeyer tallied the game winner in the 19th minute. Niemeyer dribbled into the 18-yard box and then placed a shot inside the left post for a 1-0 ONU lead. The score remained 1-0 heading into the second half.
Niemeyer struck again early in the second half. The Polar Bears were awarded a penalty kick 94 seconds into the period and Niemeyer converted the penalty for her second goal of the match and ninth of the season.
Alaura Mikesell added an insurance goal in the 62nd minute. Mikesell fired a shot from inside the 18-yard box into the upper right corner of the net for a 3-0 Polar Bear lead. The goal was Mikesell's second of the season.
Freshman keeper
Rebecca Tenney (Pepper Pike/Orange) made 12 saves in goal for the Pioneers. ONU's Emily Brodict played all 90 minutes without a save as Marietta took only one shot in the match.
Ohio Northern outshot the Pioneers 22-1 on the day. The Polar Bears took nine corner kicks to none for Marietta.
