Box Score BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University scored the first 11 points of the game and never trailed as the Yellow Jackets defeated Marietta College 85-64 Saturday (Jan. 11) afternoon in women's basketball action. The Pioneers drop to 8-5 overall and 2-4 in the Ohio Athletic Conference. Baldwin Wallace is 10-3 on the season and 5-1 in league play.
Despite shooting just 36% from the floor in the first half, Baldwin Wallace was able to take advantage of 13 Pioneer turnovers to lead 42-25 at the half. The Yellow Jackets built a 29-point lead, 58-29, early in the second period and kept the margin above 20 for most of the half.
Senior
Tori Dixon (Londonderry/Vinton County) led the Pioneers with 14 points. She needs 51 points to reach 1,000 in her career. Freshman
Jordanna Rauch (Fleming/Warren) added nine points, while Dixon and freshman
Lindsey Eckstein (Cincinnati/Oak Hills) each had a game-high seven rebounds.
BW was led by Audrey Smolik's 20 points. Lexi Rohrbach chipped in with 19 points and Shari Mangas added 11. Jessica Lairson grabbed seven boards.
For the game, Marietta was 24-of-55 (43.6%) from the floor, 8-of-14 (57.1%) from three-point range and 8-of-20 (40.0%) at the line. Baldwin Wallace shot 44.8% (30-of-67) from the floor, 25.0% (6-of-24) behind the arc and 82.6% (19-of-23) at the line.
The Yellow Jackets edged Marietta on the glass, 39-37. The Pioneers committed 20 turnovers, while BW turned the ball over 11 times.
