Box Score 2 MARIETTA, Ohio – The Marietta College volleyball team posted two 3-0 wins on the second day of the BSN River City Classic Saturday (Sept. 7) afternoon. The Pioneers defeated Frostburg State (Md.) and Grove City (Pa.).
Marietta improves to 3-4 on the season. Frostburg falls to 1-6 overall, while Grove City moves to 2-4.
The Pioneers were nearly flawless in the first two sets against Frostburg State. Marietta had a team attack percentage of .407 in the first set and .417 in the second. Marietta posted set scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-16 over the Bobcats.
Junior
Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) and sophomore
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) each had seven kills to lead Marietta. Clyde added a match-high 13 digs, while Hackenberg finished with a .636 attack percentage,
Junior
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) recorded 17 assists and freshman
Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) had 11. Senior defensive specialist
Amber Wiley (Brunswick/Brookside) notched 12 digs from the back line.
Marietta downed Grove City 25-12, 25-19 and 25-14.
Sophomore right-side hitter
Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) had a career-high 17 kills to lead the Pioneer attack against Grove City. Fellow sophomore
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) chipped in with 11 kills and four blocks. Mauer dished out a match-best 36 assists.
Four Pioneers had double digit digs in the match. Sophomore libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) led the way with 25 followed by Clyde with 24. Mauer added 13 and Wiley had 11.
Marietta concludes play in the River City Classic on Sunday (Sept. 8) with a 12:00 p.m. match against Transylvania (Ky.). Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at
