Men's Soccer falls to Birmingham-Southern by the score of 3-1

Box Score WILMINGTON, Ohio – After playing a scoreless first half, Birmingham-Southern tallied three goals in the second period en route to a 3-1 win over Marietta College in men's soccer action Saturday (Sept. 7) evening. The Pioneers are now 1-3 overall, while Birmingham moves to 4-0 on the season.

Marietta held a slight 8-6 edge in shots in the first 45 minutes of play. But neither team could find the back of the net. Senior Bobby Thaxton (Milford/Milford) got his first start of the season in goal for the Pioneers and had five saves in the match.

The Panthers stepped up their attack after halftime and drew first blood in the 57th minute on an unassisted goal by Tobias Winter. Marietta evened the match eight minutes later when sophomore forward Dylan McLean (Carrollton/Carrollton) scored off an assist from Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta).

Birmingham-Southern put the match away with goals in the 83rd and 86th minutes. For the match, the Panther outshot Marietta 17-13. Birmingham also ended with a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.
