Volleyball drops 3-0 decision to Bethany in BSN River City Classic

Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – Marietta College opened the 2013 BSN River City Classic volleyball tournament with a tough 3-0 loss to Bethany College (W.Va.) Friday (Sept. 6) evening. Bethany posted set scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-19 for the victory.

The Pioneers fall to 1-4 on the season, while Bethany improves to 4-2 overall. Marietta plays two matches on Saturday. The Pioneers host Frostburg State University (Md.) at 11:00 a.m. and Grove City College (Pa.) at 12:30 p.m.

Sophomore outside hitter Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) led the Pioneer attack with 10 kills. Sophomore middle blocker Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) added seven kills and two blocks. Junior setter Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) dished out a team-high 26 assists and chipped in with two blocks and eight digs.

Senior defensive specialist Amber Wiley (Brunswick/Brookside) and sophomore libero Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) tallied 16 and 12 digs, respectively.

Juniors Lynsie Mandt and Breana Harris each recorded a match-high 11 kills for Bethany. Classmate Jordan Fenner had 10 kills. Sophomore setter Mackenzie Lauber piloted the Bison offense with 41 assists.
