Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Powered by two goals from junior Wes Riley, the Pioneers men's soccer team defeated La Roche College 4-1 on the campus of Duquesne University Saturday (Sept. 21) afternoon. The game was moved from La Roche due to the waterlogged field that made it unplayable.
The victory was Marietta's second in a row and moved their record to 3-4 on the season. La Roche fell to 2-6 on the year.
The Pioneers opened the scoring in the 35th minute when senior
Lucas Eick (Hartville/Marlington) poked home a skip pass from junior
Todd Sabol (Barberton/Barberton). It was Eick's second goal in the past two games.
Marietta took the lead into halftime and increased it in the 50th minute on the first of Riley's goals. La Roche answered right back and cut the deficit in half with a penalty kick goal in the 55th minute.
The Pioneers restored their two-goal cushion on senior
Miles Alexander (Bellbrook/Bellbrook)'s first career goal in the 68th minute. Marietta sealed the victory with Riley's second goal on a thru ball from junior
Payton Blair (Ironton/St. Joseph Central Catholic). Riley's two goals take his team lead to six including four in the last two games.
For the afternoon La Roche outshot the Pioneers 18-14, but only put four on frame. Senior
Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) made three saves on the day in picking up his third win of the season.
