Volleyball wins two on final day of DePauw Invitational

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 GREENCASTLE, Ind. – Marietta College won a pair of matches Saturday (Sept. 14) to finish the weekend 3-1 at the DePauw Invitational volleyball tournament. The Pioneers defeated Concordia-Chicago 3-0 and then wrapped up the tournament with a 3-1 win over Trine University (Ind.).

Marietta (7-6 overall) posted set scores of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-21 against Concordia.

Sophomore all-tournament selection Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) led the Pioneers with seven kills and a .500 attack percentage in the victory. She added nine digs and a block on defense.

Sophomore Shauntiel Oliver-Smith (Elyria/Elyria) chipped in with six kills and classmate Devin Walter (Indianapolis, Ind./Southport) had five kills and three blocks.

Junior Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) and freshman Julia Moskaluk (Copley/Revere) split the setting duties. Mauer posted 16 assists and Moskaluk had 14. Sophomore libero Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) finished with 12 digs.

Against Trine, the Pioneers won the first two sets by identical 25-17 scores. Trine took the third set 25-21 before Marietta secured the win with a 25-16 tally in the fourth.

Sophomore Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) put away a team-high 10 kills and recorded five blocks. Junior Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) tallied nine kills, Clyde and senior Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) each had eight. Hackenberg also had a team-best eight blocks.

Mauer notched 31 assists, 12 digs and four blocks. Ervin posted 14 digs and Clyde added a dozen.
