Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – Transylvania University (Ky.) scored two first half goals en route to a 3-0 win over Marietta College Saturday (Sept. 14) in men's soccer action. The loss drops the Pioneers to 1-4 overall, while Transylvania improves to 4-2 on the season.
Transylvania jumped on top with a goal in the 15th minute. Senior Kyle Smith sent a cross into the six-yard box from near the left corner flag where classmate Eric Froschauer one-timed it into the lower left corner of the net.
A controversial call by the referee in the 28th minute awarded Transylvania a penalty kick. Smith capitalized on the penalty for his sixth goal of the season giving Transy a 2-0 lead.
Transylvania kept possession of the ball for most of the first half and held a 7-2 edge in shots in the opening period.
Marietta struggled to get its attack going all day. The Pioneers took just three shots and didn't take a corner kick the entire match.
An unassisted goal by senior Conner Clark in the 55th minute sealed the victory for Transylvania.
For the match, Transylvania outshot Marietta 12-2 and held a 5-0 advantage in corner kicks.

Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) had three saves in goal for Marietta. Taylor Nossokoff had one save in goal for Transylvania in the first half, while Cody Waltrip played the second 45 minutes without a save.
