Box Score 2 GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Marietta College volleyball team went 1-1 on the first day of the DePauw University Invitational Friday (Sept. 13) evening. The Pioneers defeated Olivet College (Mich.) 3-2 in their first match before falling to the host school 3-1.
Marietta (5-6 overall) posted set scores of 21-25, 25-20, 21-25, 25-22 and 15-6 in the victory over Olivet.
Sophomores
Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) and
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) led the Pioneers over Olivet with 16 and 14 kills, respectively. Senior
Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) added 13 kills. Sophomore
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) added eight kills and had five blocks.
Junior setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) piloted the attack with 57 assists to go along with two service aces, two blocks and 11 digs. Clyde posted a team-high 16 digs, while sophomore libero
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) had 14 digs.
Against the Tigers of DePauw, Marietta struggled to overcome 24 attack errors in the loss. DePauw downed the Pioneers 25-21, 22-25, 25-22 and 25-17.
DeVriendt and junior
Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) each had 10 kills for Marietta. Mauer dished out 39 assists and recorded a team-high 20 digs.
Janson had another strong showing at the net with six blocks. She also added eight kills. Horton chipped in with five blocks.
Marietta plays Concordia University (Ill.) at 10:00 a.m. and Trine University (Ind.) at 12:00 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 14) to close out the invitational. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at
