Box Score MARIETTA, Ohio – Seven different Pioneers scored goals as the Marietta College men's soccer team opened the 2013 season in grand fashion with an 8-0 win over visiting Penn State Beaver Saturday (Aug. 31) afternoon in the Marietta Soccer Classic.

The Pioneers dominated the match from start to finish taking 52 shots including 33 on frame. Meanwhile, Marietta's defense didn't allow a shot in the match.

Sophomore midfielder Luke Saunders (Groveport/Groveport Madison) started the scoring barrage with an assist from junior forward Wesley Riley (Marietta/Marietta) in the 10th minute. Four minutes later senior midfielder Lucas Eick (Hartville/Marlington) made it 2-0 off an assist from senior defender Ryan Stephens (Enon/South Point). The Pioneers took a 3-0 lead into halftime when Stephens added an unassisted goal in the 39th minute.

Two goals 30 seconds apart early in the second half put the match out of reach. Sophomore Clayton Cowgill (Alliance/Marlington) and freshman Michael Nauls (Burke, Va./Lake Braddock) each scored their first career goals in the Navy Blue and White.

Riley, Marietta's leading scorer a year ago, got in on the action with the next two Pioneer goals. Riley found the back of the net at the 53:47 mark and again at 54:52 to push the lead to 7-0.

Freshman midfielder Lucas Probst (Osterville, Mass./Barnstable) closed the scoring with a goal in the 77th minute off an assist from junior midfielder Payton Blair (Ironton/St. Joseph Central Catholic), his second of the match.

In addition to a 52-0 margin in shots, the Pioneers took 19 corner kicks to just one for Penn State.

Senior Chris Stollar (Marietta/Marietta) started in goal for the Pioneers and played the first half. Freshman Sebastian Parra (Bexley/Bexley) played the second 45 minutes.

Penn State's Matt Fetch went the distance in goal and made 25 saves in the match.
