Box Score 2 BLUFFTON, Ohio – Marietta College dropped its first two matches of the 2013 volleyball season Friday (Aug. 30) at the Sommer Center Spiketacular hosted by Bluffton University.
Alma College (Mich.) defeated the Pioneers 25-17, 25-20 and 25-19. Marietta then fell to Case Western Reserve University by the score of 25-23, 21-25, 25-18 and 25-16.
Sophomore outside hitter
Kennedy Clyde (Chagrin Falls/Hawken School) had eight kills to lead Marietta's attack against Alma. Junior middle blocker
Rachel Hackenberg (Canal Winchester/Franklin Heights) added seven kills, while junior setter
Laura Mauer (Terre Haute, Ind./North) dished out 21 assists.
Senior defensive specialist
Amber Wiley (Brunswick/Brookside) led the defense with 21 digs. Sophomore defensive specialist
Mary Ervin (Lewis Center/Olentangy Orange) chipped in with 13 digs and Mauer had 10.
Against Case Western, sophomores
Keri Horton (Westland, Mich./Wayne Memorial) and
Chloe Janson (Lawrenceburg, Ind./East Central) paced the Pioneers with 12 and 11 kills, respectively. Hackenberg added eight kills and four blocks and senior outside hitter
Paige DeVriendt (Bowling Green/Bowling Green) had seven kills and four blocks. Mauer tallied 35 assists, while Ervin posted 26 digs.
Marietta wraps up play with two matches on Saturday (Aug. 31). The Pioneers play Hope College (Mich.) at 10:00 a.m. and the host Beavers at 12:00 p.m. Fans can follow the Pioneers all season long at
