Liles continues power display as Softball sweeps Otterbein

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Senior right fielder Trayla Liles (Tollesboro, Ky./Lewis County), the reigning Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Hitter of the Week, continued her incredible display of power hitting with three more home runs in Marietta's sweep of Otterbein University Wednesday (April 17) afternoon.

The Pioneers (20-10 overall, 10-2 OAC) defeated the Cardinals (13-11, 3-7 OAC) by the scores of 9-1 and 10-2.

Liles went 3-for-4 with a double, two home runs and six RBI in the first game. The six runs batted in tied the school single game record. Liles homered in her first at bat of game two before receiving walks in her final three plate appearances.

In her last three games played, Liles is an amazing 8-for-9 with a double, six home runs and 12 runs batted in.

Liles and freshman first baseman Rachel Montgomery (Massillon, Ohio/Perry) each hit two-run home runs in the first inning of game one to give the Pioneers a 4-0 lead.

Liles made it 7-0 in the second with a three-run double. She added a solo shot in the fifth.

Sophomore Alexis O'Hair (Maumee/Maumee) (8-3) went the distance to get the win. She allowed one run on five hits in 7.0 innings of work. O'Hair walked one and struck out three.

Chelsea Burns (2-2) took the loss for the Cardinals. Burns started and lasted just 1.1 innings giving up six runs on only three hits. She walked three and struck out two.

In the nightcap, Liles stepped to the plate with outs and a runner on in the top of the first inning and deposited the ball over the fence in left-center. That would be the last hittable pitch she would see.

The Pioneers scored three runs in the first and second innings and added two more in third and fourth for a 10-0 lead.

Senior shortstop Michelle Sayre (Ripley, W.Va./Ripley) delivered a two-run double in the second, while catcher Ris McDaniel (Pickerington/North) drove in a pair of runs with a double in the third.

Otterbein got on the board with two runs in the bottom of the fourth cutting the Pioneer lead to 10-2.

Freshman Lauren Larrick (Leesburg/Fairfield Local) (9-5) notched the complete-game win throwing 5.0 innings in the run-rule shortened game. Larrick gave up two runs on six hits with a walk and a strikeout.

Freshman Logan Meddings (0-1) started the game in the circle for Otterbein and lasted just two-thirds of an inning. Meddings was charged with three runs on two hits.

McDaniel, Sayre and Montgomery each had two hits in the second game for the Pioneers.

Marietta, currently tied for first place in the OAC with Capital University, returns home to host John Carroll University on Saturday (April 20) in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader. The Blue Streaks are one game behind the Pioneers in the standings with a 9-3 OAC record.
